Tomorrow, we observe Veteran’s Day to honor military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which marks World War I. These observances reflect the end of significant hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany took effect. Initially, the United States observed Armistice Day as well. However, it evolved into the current Veterans Day in 1954.

CB Home Care is proud to serve all veterans, but today we want to highlight one of our amazing clients from our Outer Banks Branch.

Charles L. Wescott is a 105-year-old native of Wanchese, Dare County, North Carolina and currently an in-home client of Quality Home Staffing. It is believed that Mr. Wescott is the eldest Native North Carolinian WW-II Veteran, but Governmental research is currently ongoing for official confirmation.  Mr. Wescott has answered the call of his country many times.  In 1937, at the age of nineteen, he enlisted into the U.S. Government Program entitled Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). He received the customary small salary, and he arranged for $22.00 monthly to be paid to his parents to assist with their financial needs. His employment involved working in various areas of North Carolina, but the majority of his service time was spent in Dare County, where he received his Honorable Discharge in 1939.

In 1940, Mr. Wescott joined the U.S. Coast Guard, prior to the United States joining into WW-II in 1941. During WW-II he served under the U.S. Navy and was involved in military operations from the U.S. East Coast-North Atlantic to the U.S./Mexico Border within the Gulf of Mexico.  He is proud to have served his Country when we needed him most.

Mr. Wescott looks forward to the Monday-Friday visits and care given him by the Outer Banks Home Care Caregiver!

At CBHomeCare we give Mr. Wescott and all of our veterans a huge thank you for their services!
